Five easy ways to use Dates Powder
From breakfast bowls to banana bread, simple ideas for adding the sweetness of dates to everyday food.

Dates Powder is simply dried dates milled into a fine powder. It brings a soft, caramel-like sweetness to food, and because it is made from whole fruit, it behaves a little differently from sugar. Here are five easy ways to use it.
1. Stir it into pap and cereals
Add a teaspoon or two to Tom Brown, Tamba, oats or custard just before serving. Stir well and taste as you go.
2. Blend it into smoothies
Blend it with banana and milk or yoghurt for a naturally sweet smoothie. Blending helps the powder mix in completely.
3. Sprinkle it over yoghurt and fruit
A light sprinkle over yoghurt, pawpaw or sliced banana adds sweetness and a little texture.
4. Bake with it
Use it in place of some of the sugar in banana bread, muffins and cakes. Start by swapping about a quarter of the sugar, then adjust in your next batch.
5. Sweeten kunu and other drinks
Stir it into kunu, tiger nut drink or chilled milk. Shake or blend well, as the powder can settle at the bottom of the glass.
A quick note
Dates Powder does not fully dissolve like table sugar, especially in hot tea or coffee. For drinks, blending or shaking gives the smoothest result. Keep the pack sealed in a cool, dry place so the powder stays free-flowing.
